About Us
The L.E. Smith Company was founded in 1950 by Lawrence E. (L.E.) Smith as a small business selling moldings for countertops in Northwest Ohio. L.E. and his wife, June, have 7 children, many of whom worked for the company during their careers.
Two of their children, Steve and Joe, succeeded L.E. as the second generation owner / executive team. As a result of their leadership, L.E. Smith became one of the first DuPont™ Corian® distributors in the United States in the early 1970’s. The business also grew to become one of the largest custom laminate manufacturers in the Midwest.
Headquartered in small town Bryan, Ohio, The L.E. Smith Company is now a third-generation family business. We are dedicated to maintaining L.E. Smith’s history of quality and service for our customers with an eye on innovation and continuous improvement. We also take our responsibility to our employees and our community seriously, working hard to create opportunity for both.
The combined efforts in custom countertop fabrication and wholesale distribution were the main drivers of the L.E. Smith growth engine for nearly 40 years. In 2010, L.E. Smith returned to it's roots, making the strategic decision to exit DuPont Surfaces distribution and focus 100% on custom countertop manufacturing & installation services. This dedicated focus has fueled great success as we have expanded our existing territory of Indiana, Michigan, & Ohio, to now include Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Illinois.
We believe that our commitment to on-time delivery of the finest quality products drives the high marks we receive from our customers and our very low customer turnover.
With nearly 60 years of experience, we have built the intellectual know-how, best in industry processes and a team of dedicated, caring professionals. We believe attention to detail makes L.E. Smith successful, and we spend a great deal of time evaluating our performance against the commitments we have made to our customers. Because of the discipline of our own self-evaluation process, we are proactive in implementing performance restorative processes when necessary. This discipline explains our 98% plus on time delivery, our ability to respond to your request for quote or order confirmation within several hours, and our 99% quality metric. We are steadfast in continuing our commitment to excellence to our customers, employees, suppliers and community.
