The sia product offering for solid surface is a very durable and anti-static line of abrasives which are engineered specifically for the solid surface industry. The benefit of using sia products has been experienced by many fabricators and is recommended by DuPont™ for difficult finishes. This line of abrasives reduces sanding time while providing a cost effective sanding option that in many cases is less expensive than other brands. The basis for improved sanding is that all particles on the sandpaper are of the same size and positioned on the paper in the same manner, thus it cuts more evenly. Also, it is easy to reference since the paper is numbered like traditional abrasives (120, 180, 280, etc.) however, the particulates are micron regulated, which mean even more uniform sanding.
There are two options for adhering sandpaper to a sander: Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (PSA) and Hook and Loop. Most Solid Surface fabricators have experienced that PSA papers typically can not be reused and often sand unevenly due to adhesive build up on the pad or from the use of pads which are excessively worn. We recommend the Hook and Loop system for the following reasons: the paper can be reused and thus, lasts longer. Also, since the sandpaper is easily removed and does not “glue” to the back of the pad, the pad stays flatter and sands more evenly. Fabricators who have tried sia have found that it sands faster and lasts longer than traditional abrasives, saving them time and money.
