Focus On Quality

May 16th through the18th, Mike Wynne, L.E. Smith Director of Quality, attended the American Society of Quality Convention in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  While there, he participated in numerous workshops across a variety of topics ranging from “Speed Networking” to “Quality Presentations,” to the “Focus on People” within quality.  Mike said that he enjoyed all of the different topics and was pleasantly surprised by the level of enthusiasm throughout the groups participating.  The biggest takeaway Mike said that he had for the overall convention was that, “We are all change agents, and the focus on quality has shifted from identifying defects in product, to identifying defects in processes.   This focus on processes ultimately eliminates defects in product, but it’s just a different way of tackling the same issue.”  Mike also stated that in every workshop he participated in, continuous improvement and a focus on lean manufacturing were both hot topics.  Mike’s role at L.E. Smith is to comprehensively identify and improve total quality throughout all aspects of the business.  He is an integral member of our team, and certainly the “change agent” for L.E. Smith.

“Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.”  – William A. Foster quotes
