L. E. Smith Holds Job Fair

Local job fair held on Thursday

Looking for a job?

L.E. Smith Company is hosting a job fair Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. at its location at 1030 E. Wilson St. in Bryan.

While some companies are still laying off workers, this countertop fabricator’s business is expanding so much it plans to add six to 12 people to its employee roster.

L.E. Smith Chief Operating Officer Craig Francisco said the company decided a job fair would be the best way to attract qualified job candidates.

He and Human Resources Administrator Sidney Fogle said they hope to fill a range of positions.  They will be looking for office personnel, fabricators and drivers to deliver product.

L.E. Smith is one of the leading fabricators of laminate and solid surface countertops for the residential and commercial markets in this part of the country.

Francisco said the decision to hire more associates stems from both present and future demand.

“Ideally, we hope to pull people out of our county,” Francisco said, although he and Fogle indicated applicants from Defiance County and beyond will certainly be welcome.  “It’s my hope that people come prepared,” he said.

In other words, be ready for a job interview, have your resume in hand and job application filled out.  Applications are available in PDF format on the company’s website at www.lesmith.com.  After the application is filled out, print it and bring it with you to the job fair.

Signs will be posted directing applicants to the company’s east entrance, which has more parking space than the west side.

But if you smoke, stay home.  Francisco and Fogle said smokers and tobacco users are ineligible for employment at L.E. Smith.  And please don’t call the company about employment – just show up Aug. 12 for the job fair.

Francisco said L.E. Smith currently employs 84 people and is in its 60th year of operation.

This family-owned business was founded in 1950 by Lawrence E. Smith and is in its third generation of family ownership.
